Sleep!!
I totally hit a wall Sunday. I was doing two-a-days of cardio and weights all week. I hadn’t really taken a day off of lifting for about ten days. I do believe in rest days, I just felt the need to high gear for a while. I slept for 6 hours Saturday night, then got up early to do legs with Mike O’Hearn and Justin Lovato at Venice Golds Gym. Then to the farmers market for a 3 lb burrito which I could totally finish in one sitting, but spread it to two meals.
When I got home I decided a nap would be good… 4 HOURS LATER, I WOKE UP. Four hours, holy smokes! My body was telling me it needed recovery time. I slept deep and was definitely in recovery mode. Your body grows and heals when you sleep.
When I was training heavy powerlifting, my sleep regimen was top priority. As it should be with all active powerlifters and bodybuilders. You are just cheating yourself if you don’t allow your body to recover. When those muscle fibers tear down during training, you want them to build back up. This process takes place when you sleep.
